Two juveniles face rape charges in June, ODPP rape stats reveal

Two juveniles are among three people accused of raping victims they were related to, the latest statistics from the Director of Public Prosecutio­ns (ODPP) indicate.

The three accused are among the seven people charged with a total of 14 counts of separate incidents in June. The offences were rape (13) and attempted rape (1).

A 15-year-old boy was charged with two counts of rape of his eight-year-old sister-in-law. A 16-year-old boy was charged with the attempted rape and rape of his 19-yearold cousin and a 34-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 47-year-old de facto partner.

The following data is authorised for release by the ODPP and relates to the number of formal indictment­s (Informatio­n) filed in the High Courts of Fiji by the Director of Public Prosecutio­ns throughout the month. This data is confined to incidents of serious sexual offences only.

There were seven victims of whom two victims were under the age of 18 years. There were six female victims and one male victim.

There were three incidents where the victim and the accused were related to one another.

There was one incident where a 29-year-old man was charged with four counts of rape of a 12-year-old boy.

A 54-year-old man was charged with three counts of rape of a 34-year-old woman after a drinking party.

There was one incident where a 24-year-old man was charged with the rape of a 21-year-old woman who was a passenger in his taxi, while a 27-year-old man was charged with the rape of a 20-year-old woman.
