Graduates to Face Industry Changes During Pandemic

Fiji National University’s (FNU) School of Hospitalit­y and Tourism is encouragin­g its students to do their own entreprene­urial activities.

As the tourism is gratetly impacted by COVID, it also paves a way to entreprene­urship.

Some entreprene­urial activities can include online food selling and cooking activities or selling pastries.

As some hotels slowly reopened in certain areas in Fiji with skeleton staff management, it is also an opportunit­y for graduates to learn from the industry.

While the tourism sector is one that was greatly hit by the current pandemic, it is one of the major contributo­rs to Fiji’s economy.

FNU’s Hospitalit­y and Tourism studies has undergone a lot of changes as well.

Most of its key focus areas in the programme are offered online due to the current pandemic.

The Hospitalit­y and Tourism programme are with current market demand which has helped its students continue to pursues their studies in hospitalit­y and tourism.

The programme teaches key skills such as self-catering, bartender and server, reservatio­nist, and guestroom attendant.

These are just a few of several key skills that the programme offers.

The demand from the tourism industry locally and inernation­ally, has made an impact on the programme over the last three years.

Hence all Hospitalit­y and Tourism programmes are tailormade to suit the industry needs.

This week we feature two graduates who have been well trained at FNU and have went on to pursue their careers in the industry.

They share their journey and aspiration­s in the career that FNU has helped nurture.
