Serving two masters
Ronnie Chang, Martintar Nadi
To all hard-working nurses who have been sent away on leave, please remain strong.
Thank you for all your hard work, dedication and many endless hours of sacrifice. You know best. My little message to you is remember your training and oaths to your noble profession: Saving lives; Serving mankind.
It is impossible to serve two masters at the same time. You cannot properly serve the Lord your God and your employer, the Government of the day, without properly protecting yourself, your family and loved ones, relatives and most of all, patients.
I would hate to be an in-patient knowing my nurse is not COVID vaccinated. Similarly, if you were an in-patient and your duty nurse was not vaccinated, will there be some discomfort, resentment and feeling of adverse irresponsibility?
I pray as you return to your loved ones, families and relatives, take the time reflect, ponder and pray for a way forward. Vaccines are the only protection we have against this deadly COVID virus.
Prayers are good and appreciated. Equally so, guard your faith, by all means. Please remember your training. Prayers alone in this huge COVID siege, will not work. Doctors and nurses are God’s gift to all mankind. Use your gifts responsibly to save lives.
Fiji does not need anymore disconcerting theories of anti-advocacy.
To conclude, my repeated heartfelt thanks and praise to Dr Fong; Dr Sahu Khan; all hard working doctors and nurses; our law and order personnel. I would be failing if I did not say “Vinaka vakalevu”to all our caring members of ANZMAT.” Your sacrifices are duly noted.
