Taxi Drivers Promote Vaccination Drive
Taxi 5 Operators Association in Lautoka is on a journey to help Government get all Fijians vaccinated. Their drive began yesterday by placing visual signage in their taxis encouraging passengers to get vaccinated and to inform them that the driver has been vaccinated and the vehicle is safe to travel in.
The association’s secretary, Jai Subhash said as public service vehicle providers, taxi drivers were always at the frontline providing the immediate service of transporting people daily. Mr Subhash said the determination to help Government move forward was part of the social responsibility of all the members.
“We cannot believe the havoc these misfits are creating in the country about the vaccine, we believe it does save lives,” he said.
“My association members and I have taken the AstraZeneca vaccine without any side effects, most are fully vaccinated and the rest are eager to take their second jab soon. We just feel that it is our duty to help our beloved country in this time of need.”
He said previously the drivers were normally equipped to carry at least five passengers but now they were only carrying three whilst following the COVID-19 protocols.
“We have also implemented other COVID safe measures for the convenience of our passengers which includes getting our passengers to mask up because we have implemented strict guidelines of ‘no mask no entry’, we also check to see if they have the careFIJI app and bluetooth turned on before boarding our taxis,” he added.
Association media liaison officer, Sanjesh Lal said Fijians should work hand in hand to fight the virus and allow Fiji to return to normalcy.
