Labasa Vendors Encouraged to Get Vaccinated
Vendors are urged to come forth and get vaccinated as it is the right thing to do says Labasa/Savusavu Town Council Special Administrator Doreen Robinson.
Ms Robinson said the council had been pushing the message to the market vendors.
She said the Labasa Town Council had also set up a vaccination team in the Handicraft section of the market to allow vendors access to the vaccination team and get vaccinated.
“Last Saturday we had vaccination station here and it was quite encouraging to see a good turn out of vendors coming forth to be vaccinated,” Ms Robinson said.
“However, that is a small fraction and that concerns me as Cakaudrove has been active in getting the vendors and everyone vaccinated,” said Ms Robinson.
She adds that setting the Council is campaigning for the vendors to get vaccinated because some communities are living in fear.
“We do need to promote the vaccination a little more here as there is a segment of the community that are living in fear and are holding back.
“We need to remove that fear and have them come forward and present themselves for vaccination.
Ms Robinson said the council is looking into ways into encouraging vendors into getting vaccinated.
Rights and responsibilities
She said while people are placing emphasis on their rights, they should know that rights comes with responsibilities.
“We have a responsibility to do what is now ‘our patriotic duty’, to get herd immunity so that everybody can get back to normal and live a normal life again and people need to understand that.
“It’s not only the right thing to do but it’s ok to get vaccinated.
“People need to be lining up to get their jab instead of having to be convinced to do so,” she said.
The Special administrators will liaise with the Ministry of Health for another round of the vaccination team at the marketplace.
