Team Fiji men’s rugby sevens utility rep Semi Radradra is one of the three Gallagher Premiership Rugby players to be playing in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan.

In a statement, the Gallagher Premiership Rugby indicated the other two are Saracens’ Ben Harris who is selected to represent Great Britain along with Dan Norton.

Norton, who is the all-time World Rugby Sevens Series leading try scorer joined London Irish on a short-term contract in August 2020.

The Fijians beat Great Britain 43-7 in the final of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil to claim the gold medal..

The 29-year-old Radradra was not part of the gold medal-winning team five years ago, but the utility back does have previous sevens experience for his country.

He also ran out in the Marauder Sevens, in the Super Sevens Series at Newbury RFC two weeks ago.

The competition was won by Samurai Rugby but Radradra’s side won the plate, with Bears marquee signing setting up the winning try in golden point extra-time.

Radradra did not feature for Fiji at last month’s Oceania Sevens in Townsville but joined a team laced with experience in Japan, including 2016 Olympic Games gold medalist Jerry Tuwai.

Fiji are in Pool B at the Olympics and will play Great Britain, Canada and Japan, kicking off on July 26, and Gareth Baber expects Radradra to make a big difference to his side.

“I know him as an individual, an athlete and he keeps himself in a supreme condition which is why he always wins the battle,” said the Fijian sevens head coach.

“He is blessed to have the skill level of a 7s player even-though he predominantly plays 15s and has done remarkable work for us when he played for us either in 7s or 15s code.”
