Across the country, due to the spread of COVID-19, children are affected by physical distancing and nationwide school closures. Some children and young people may be feeling more isolated, anxious, bored and uncertain.
ACCF would like to highlight the following tips to look after our mental health:
Listen to advice and recommendations from your national and local authorities such as the Fijian Government, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education.
Keep up with daily routines as far as possible or make new ones.
Exercise regularly.
Allocate time for studying and time for resting.
Since movement is restricted, keep in regular contact with people close to you by phone, or online if you are old enough and permitted to do so. If engaging online, ensure you are taking online safety measures to protect yourself. ports science studies cover a range of areas including sports management, training, coaching, fitness etc which are practised in the sporting industry.
The fitness discipline in sports science helps to understand and hopefully provide solutions to some of Fiji’s major health challenges such as non-communicable diseases which is also a top killer in the Pacific.
Sports science is the study of how the human body responds to physical exercises particularly during a sporting activity.
It helps to understand which correct physical activity is needed for the health and performance of the human body.
Focus areas
The study of sports science traditionally incorporates areas of physiology, psychology, anatomy, biomechanics, biochemistry, and biokinetics.
Over the years, sports science specialists have also been involved in promoting healthier lifestyles along with health specialists who advise on the importance of physical activity.
Fiji National University (FNU) sports science programme provides the necessary qualifications needed in Fiji’s sporting industry.
It’s programme looks at areas such as training and teaching which would be undertaken in the play grounds/courts, labs and in the wider sporting industry.
Sports science programme at FNU is designed to reflect the role of a sports trainer for example, who would then implement the various trainings.
This week we feature the story of Mereseini Vasuilia, a young lad who went on to pursue her childhood dreams in sports science.
