Before we start the day , we will say our prayers to bless the family and to bless the poor who are hungry. After prayer we will then start with the slaughtering of the animal, cook a meal .

It will be a double celebration for Faiz Khan and his family as they mark Eid-ul-Adha and celebrate his 50th birthday.

While celebrating meant following COVID safety measures and no home visits, Eid-ul-Adha would still be a special day. Mr Khan said he has already spent $1200 to purchase a cow for slaughtering today.

He said while strict COVID protocols will be followed, marking Eidul-Adha which will be filled with prayer and thanksgiving.

“Before we start the day , we will say our prayers to bless the family and to bless the poor who are hungry.

“After prayer we will then start with the slaughtering of the animal, cook a meal and share with the rest of the family.

“With this pandemic, a lot of families are not able to afford meat so we share what we have from slaughtering this animal. This is what Eid-ulAdha also signifies, for us to share with those who are poor,” said Mr Khan.

Last year, Mr Khan also bought a cow for Eid-ul-Adha and celebrated with close family and friends.

He said to choose an animal for Eid-ul-Adha, it was important to find a healthy one that is two years old or above.

“This is because it signifies purity. Eid-ul-Adha is also about purifying ourselves through the food that we eat and who we surround ourselves with. Eid-ul-Adha also means the ‘Festival of Sacrifice’ which signified Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion to Allah (SWT) and his readiness to sacrifice his son, Ismail,” said Mr Khan.
