The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) Supervisor of Election, Mohammed Saneem, is advising Fijians to change their green colour voter cards before the 2022 General Elections.

Mr Saneem highlighted this while providing an Election Preparation Update on the FEO’s Facebook page yesterday.

He said the FEO wanted to equip Fijians with sufficient knowledge for the next general election.

Voter card

Mr Saneem said the green-coloured voter cards have expired and if anyone was holding on to a green-coloured voter card they must prepare to upgrade their voter card to the blue one.

“We anticipate a lot of voters to be coming forward to update their details and upgrade their card to the latest version,” he said.

He said they would be conducting a voter survey from January 20, 2022, until February 5, 2022, so they could get some real-time data.

“After that, we will roll out a voter registration drive for a six-week period from February 26 to April 2.

Voter registration drive

Mr Saneem said: “This voter registration drive means the team will have to go to all the islands,

highlands, and urban centres so that you can access them and get your voter details updated.

“The voter service centre was planned to be open in May next year but considering the number of requests we are getting for the upgrade of voter cards we will be opening them from October 4, 2021.”

Mr Saneem said there was 651,168 registered voters as of June 2021, and the registration rate is 50.6 per cent male and 49.9 per cent, female.

He said there will be 1437 polling venues for the next General Election and out of these venues there will be 58 pre-polling venues and 854 election day venues.

The FEO would also launch an online complaint portal which would be live from January 20, 2022.

“The presiding officer will be receiving assistance through an app as well so that the app will be ready by November 30 this year.”

Mr Saneem said the approved budget for operations is $23.1 million and the election period budget is $14.8m.
