Chand’s romance with the Fiji Sun began from his teaching days
Iam an avid reader of the Fiji Sun. I am so happy to learn that you are celebrating your 22nd anniversary.
My love and romance with Fiji Sun started way back when I was a secondary school language teacher and the principal at Bhawani Dayal Arya College.
I used to order both the newspapers Fiji Times and Fiji Sun for the school library.
To my astonishment, I found that the students and teachers were very fond of reading Fiji Sun because of its Sports section and cartoons.
I used to read both the newspapers to extract materials for my senior class teachings.
By doing so, I inculcated the love for reading among my students.
I asked the students to subscribe to any newspaper of their choice for reading.
Many liked Fiji Sun because of its colour and content. Front page articles, Letters to the Editor, cartoons, astrology and sports section were their favourites.
I have deep interest in politics, local events, agriculture, weather, international news and now very educational articles on leadership and economics catch my attention.
I never miss out on letters to the editor section and Nemani Delaibatiki comments.
Jyoti Pratibha also writes very well and I enjoy reading Professor Satendra Nandan’s comments as well. Recent investigative reporting has also caught my attention.
Mahendra Reddy’s agricultural articles appeal to me because of its relevance to the economy of the country.
Climate change stories do not escape my eyes. Survival of our island communities is of concern to all of us.
I have been a regular commentator in the letters to the editor column. Many of these have been appreciated by other readers/ writers as well.
I have won a number of prizes as well.
Fiji Sun gets delivered to my house very early in the morning and my day begins from there.
May I wish Fiji Sun, my favourite newspaper, my hearty congratulations on its 22nd birthday.
