Fiji Sun relationship assists in school principal’s efforts to help students
School administrator Mohammed Saiyaz Khan has had a long lasting relationship with the Fiji Sun which has helped him and his students.
He has been helped by the Fiji Sun to create awareness among his students and provide students and the community with motivation.
After serving the community of Nadogo in Labasa for over three years, he is back in Suva where he is the head of Basden Anglican College.
At the Nasinu School, he made changes as well. With the assistance from donors, he was able to provide needy students with desks and chairs at their homes and he provided his Year 13 students with smart phones so they could attend the zoom
With the involvement of the community, Mr Khan managed to change things in Nadogo. Under his leadership, the school became a top academic achiever as well as the top sporting school in the North.
“The good relationship with the Fiji Sun allowed me to highlight the achievements of my students. This way I kept other students motivated and the community involved.”
In the midst of COVID-19, Mr Khan and his friends set up a charity organisation called WE-Fiji. Their purpose was to provide food and other basic items.
Mr Khan said with the help of Fiji Sun, they were able to identify some of the recipients.
He said their work was publicised by the newspaper as well which allowed donors to see transparency and accountability.
“The media is a good tool. And the Fiji Sun newspaper is leading the way by helping the communities in spreading information and awareness,” Mr Khan said.
“On the occasion of the Fiji Sun’s birthday anniversary, I would like to wish the newspaper and its employees all the best.
“Keep up the good work.” com.fj
