Grab And Run Thieves Return

A Cunningham resident will start creating awareness about grab and run incidents from vehicles along Nabua during peak hour traffic.
On Tuesday around 5.40pm, an attempt was made to grab a mobile phone from a passenger in Shivnesh Lal’s car.
Mr Lal said the passenger was fortunate because the phone had a key ring which the passenger held onto.
“We were heading home towards Cunningham. We came near the cigarette factory. My brotherin-law was in the front passenger seat,” he said.
“We saw four men come down from the settlement. They were walking very close to the cars which were at a standstill because of the traffic.
“The four passed us, but we did not realise that one came back. He grabbed onto the phone but could not snatch it away.”
Mr Lal said at this point passengers in the backseat of his car and he came out of the car but the men had started running away.
He said they were all masked up and wearing hoodies and beanies. They managed to take a picture of two of the four men before they disappeared.
Similar incident
Mr Lal said last year a friend and himself were ambushed by men hiding in bushes just past the place where the incident happened yesterday.
He said they did not make a Police complaint because nothing was taken.
He said he just wanted to create awareness so people crossing the area would be careful.
Two days earlier Mr Lal’s vehicle was damaged by a drunkard in Wailea Street in Vatuwaqa. He said the drunk man climbed on the bonnet of the car and jumped on it. He reported this matter to the Police.

These include one where a woman was dragged through the bus by a purse snatcher and another where a journalist’s purse was stolen when the mini bus she was travelling in stopped to offload a passenger at a bus stop in the area.
Traffic flow at Samabula
Meanwhile, residents of Samabula are concerned that parking along a busy road is creating a situation that could lead to a dangerous accident.
The area of concern is Namuka Street entrance off Moala Street.
There are shops which are busy on one side and the other side is being used by taxi drivers as a parking spot.
Samabula resident Marika Qasevakatini said he had close calls in the area.
Aklesh Prasad of Fulaga Street said the Suva City Council Depot was in the vicinity and the road was often used by trucks operated by the council.
