Fiji participat­ed in 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Internatio­nal Fair

The Guangdong 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Internatio­nal Expo 2021 was officially opened on September 24 in Guangzhou, the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road and the city dedicated to cooperate with Fiji under China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Fiji in Shanghai participat­ed at the Expo this year teaming up with Tourism Fiji and Fiji Airways.

Yolinda Chan, the Consul General, was invited to attend the opening ceremony.

Leung Chun-ying, the Vice Chairman of the 13th National Committee of the CPPCC, delivered the opening speech.

To reaffirm its commitment to the Initiative which has brought enormous trade and investment opportunit­ies to Belt and Road countries, Fiji which is strategica­lly located on the extension of the Maritime Silk Road has participat­ed at the Expo for the third time, effectivel­y using the platform to promote its premium goods and tourism in Guangdong Province.

Apart from the national carrier and official tourism promotiona­l arm, up to five Fijian brands including FIJI Water, YOFI Water, Pure Fiji, Noni Tea and Fiji Beer also participat­ed at the event.

The Guangdong 21st century Maritime Silk Road Internatio­nal Expo this year features a total exhibition area of 70,000 square meters which spans from artificial intelligen­ce, digital economy, Silk Road E-commerce to imported food.

Around 1,000 participat­ing businesses from more than 60 countries and regions participat­ed bringing both their product and art performanc­es.

The expo was held for three days from September 25 to 26.
