Toberua, Suva Point for Amitia

- FREDERICA ELBOURNE F: frederica.elbourne@fijisun.com.fj

Amitia Huggett, the new managing director for Architects Pacific, took over the helm of the company after her father, Stuart Huggett, died earlier this month.

Ms Huggett was born and raised in Toorak, Suva, before she completed her Masters in Architecture at Auckland University, New Zealand.

“Architecture and design are certainly a love of mine, and it does absorb a lot of my life,” Ms Huggett said.

“But my absolute greatest passion would have to be my two daughters, Suliana and Lucia.”

Architects Pacific was founded in Fiji 50 years ago, by Mr Huggett and his wife Gilly.

What is one place in Fiji you would take friends to, and why?

Toberua is a very special spot.

The staff are amazing.

I spent a lot of time there when I was growing up.

Back then, Mike Dennis owned the place.

Wakaya Island has to be a very close second, because it is just so beautiful and unlike anywhere else in Fiji.

I also spent a lot of time there growing up.

Architects Pacific has done a considerable amount of work across Fiji for a very long time, so I was always taken to all the greatest locations, very spoilt.

Nostalgia and good experiences are so important when choosing to travel somewhere again.

Luckily for us, Fiji has a lot of these amazing places - easy to take friends and your kids anywhere, and know you will be looked after so well.

What is your favourite spot for a coffee/pie, and why?

It’s a hard choice between Moments and Mad Hatter.

If I have the girls in tow, its Mad Hatter for sure; they adore it.

Editors note: Mad Hatter closed its business operations on September 26,2021.

What is your favourite backyard spot, and why?

With COVID-19 restrictions, it has literally become the backyard, Suva Point.

It is amazing how nice it is in the water, and we never really took advantage of it.

It’s been actually very good to appreciate our immediate surroundings, and get to know and love Suva a little better.

What is one place in Fiji that is on your bucket list, and why?

The Lau group.

It looks so fantastic, pristine and untouched.

I can imagine that the amazing photos we see don’t even come close to doing it justice.
