From working in a bakery to becoming a bakery owner, Krishneel Gounder has never looked back while pursuing a new dream to open his own business.

The decision to resign from his position as a baker in Nawai, Nadroga wasn’t easy but with a positive mindset, Mr Gounder was determined to see that vision succeed.

Mr Gounder owns Ram’s Bakery and Café, located at the corner of Sonaisali Road and Queens Highway outside town.

The bakery opened its doors to customers yesterday.

“It’s a bakery and a grocery shop,” he said.

“We will be manufacturing and selling sweets for all occasions.”

Mr Gounder said he was venturing into a bakery business given his experience as a baker at the Shop & Save Supermarket along with other bakeries.

“I now have enough experience in baking and pastry making, and I decided to open my own business.

“It was my dream to own a bakery and make good bread for the people I serve,” he said.

After his high school, Mr Gounder managed to get training in baking and pastry at the Technical College.

The bakery employs four staff members; a baker, a pastry chef, sweets maker and a cashier.

According to Mr Gounder, the total investment is $40,000, including bakery equipment, freezer, cake cooler and consumables items.

“I had saved up money over the years to realise my dream and a friend has supported me financially,” he said.

“We hope to make fresh bread for the surrounding communities and those using the Queens Road can stop by for nice bread and party products as well as beverages,” he said.
