Mrs Chandra hopes to take advantage of local deals to also help support the people working in the tourism sector.

Planning family trips have become more exciting for Saras Chandra since the lifting of borders on Viti Levu and new curfew times.

As Fiji Day approaches, she plans to make bookings at a local resort with her family.

While she is yet to decide on which resort to book with, she said the local special deals have been very appealing.

“I travel a lot to the west because I have a lot of relatives living there and I see the rates that these hotels and resorts are offering, it is really nice.

‘My son and I are planning to book a family room for us and the kids to enjoy and celebrate Fiji Day and looking at the deals, it’s hard to choose because all the deals are good,” said Mrs Chandra.

She plans to wear Fiji Day themed colors with the rest of the family and celebrate at a resort.

She added that previously, booking at resort was expensive but with the pandemic, her family are more keen to plan family trips to the west.

The 54 year – old does cosmetic selling in markets across Suva, Nausori and when possible, at the western division.

During the whole lockdown and border restrictions, she was only restricted to selling cosmetics at the Nausori market as it was closer to home.

“I make sure to follow all COVID protocols to be safe for me and my customers. During the whole lockdown, my customers were all waiting for the borders to reopen so that they can but cosmetics,” she said.

She thanked the Government for reopening the borders as she was also able to travel to Lautoka to visit her relatives.

She said it has been a year since she last seen her relatives in Lautoka.

“As soon as it was announced that borders were lifted, we made a surprise visit to my daughter in-law and relatives in Lautoka. It was nice to just be together, share a meal and just talk about life and family. This is something that we haven’t done for a while and I was so happy to see them,” said Mrs Chandra.

Mrs Chandra hopes to take advantage of local deals to also help support the local tourism sector.

She described Fiji as a beautiful country and would make bookings to hotels and resorts to help keep the sector recover.
