Maritime travel will be allowed when Fiji reaches its 80 per cent vaccination target. Leading up to this, Tourism Fiji is encouraging Fijians to explore the amazing tourism areas and experiences Fiji has to offer.

With hotels and resorts offering special deals, chief executive officer Brent Hill said the new norm for local travel looks exciting.

He said while Tourism Fiji targets October 4 for the reopening of restaurants, spas, sports, places of worship, there is still so much families can enjoy for local travel.

Mr Hill advises hotel operators to use media and social media platforms to encourage local travelers to make use of special deals.

“Tourism experiences and product should use local media, social media etc to push these incredible offers to domestic tourists, as it’s a really important market as we build back towards reopening International borders.

“There are offers for every type of traveller – families, budget or luxury! Tourism Fiji wants all Fijians to get out there and

support our industry – take a holiday, enjoy an experience.. its vital for us to build back our tourism jobs, and you’ll have a brilliant time,” he said.

While there are a number of protocols in place for local travel to resorts and hotels, Mr Hill said travelers will be requested to produce evidence of vaccination to enter resorts and tourism businesses.

He said this is done to create a safe environment for the resort staff and the travelling people.

Mr Hill added that as Fiji closely reached its vaccination rate, it is still not a time to relax on COVID protocols.

“We have come so far, we need to support each other and maintain our vigilance, so we can continue to open up Fiji.

“Rolling out shortly will be the Vax-Check tool, as well as the QR codes we are used to. Domestic tourists must be fully vaccinated in order to enter hotels. Many hotels will also have CareFiji Commitment protocols, and this is designed to ensure people stay safe and healthy while they have a great time,” said Mr Hill.

Mr Hill advises local travelers not to travel to low vaccination areas but to encourage everyone to get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

He said vaccines are helping keep people out of hospital which is the key to Fiji as it gears to reopening its international borders.
