Fiji’s most popular regions visited by local tourists are Nadi & Denarau, the Coral Coast and Suva & Pacific Harbour.

This was stated by the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Associatio­n and Australia’s Market Developmen­t Facility.

The study has shown that these destinatio­ns have reported 91 percent of most local tourists.

Denarau & Nadi

Denarau & Nadi is a major tourism destinatio­n, easily accessible accessible by road and typically catering to the family market looking for rest & relaxation.

Fifty-four percent of people said they usually travel to Denarau & Nadi, whereas 20 percent said Denarau & Nadi was the new region they’d like to explore.

The average spend of travelers to Denarau & Nadi is $890 for a two-night trip.

Savusavu is identified as a tourism hub for local travel with its waterbased adventures and sea view accommodat­ions.

According to a joint Fiji’s first domestic tourism study on Fiji’s local tourism demand, the average spend of travellers to Savusavu is $895 for a two nights trip.

The study found that 15 percent of people identified Savusavu as the new region they’d like to explore.

Aside from this, Mamanucas & Yasawas are some of Fiji’s most picturesqu­e islands, and renowned for their high-end luxury and family resorts, perfect for diving, surfing, or just relaxing on the beach.

Coral Coast

Coral Coast is home to some of Viti Levu’s best beaches, and is renowned for its family-friendly resorts, wedding chapels and world-class convention centers.

Twenty-four percent of people said they usually travel to Coral Coast and 25 percent said Coral Coast was the new region they’d like to explore.

The average spend of travelers to Coral Coast is $756 for a twonight trip.

Suva

Suva is Fiji’s capital and largest city, and offers a range of historical sites, museums, parks, markets and vibrant nightlife for local tourists.

Ten percent of people said they usually travel to Suva and 20 percent said Suva was the new region they’d like to explore.

The average spend of travelers to Suva is $796 for a two-night trip. many people this still seems aspiration­al, and it was often ‘bucket list’ activities (like sky diving) that were the most popular and discussed. However, there is a definite mismatch in locals’ interests, and their budgets for these activities. If operators can introduce a package at the right price point, there’s potentiall­y a large market to tap into.

“Cruises were by far the most popular activity among those surveyed. Packaged day-cruises were the most popular activity for every segment. In faceto-face interviews, there was also a lot of interest in multiday cruises, with people wanting to take this opportunit­y to see more remote regions outside Viti Levu,” the reported stated.
