More time needed in disclosures: Court hears
State Prosecutor Prenika Lata has requested for more time from the High Court in Lautoka to file disclosures and information.
This is in the case of five individuals charged with the alleged murder of Eneri Ali on September 19 in Navakai, Nadi.
The matter was heard before Justice Sunil Sharma yesterday.
Rusiate Kevin James Lal, Ronald Simon Lal, Ron Tuivuna William Lal, Sundar Lal and Baleiwai Waqabaca Lal are each charged with one count of murder, however the accused persons could not be present in court because they were still in remand.
Lauvili Koroitamudu of Chetty Law and Associates represented Rusiate Kevin James Lal and Ronald Simon Lal, Ronald Kumar of Ronald Kumar lawyers represented Ron Tuivuna William Lal while Ravneet Charan of Ravneet Charan lawyers represented Sundar Lal and Baleiwai Waqabaca Lal.
The court heard that Iqbal Khan of Iqbal Khan and Associates was appearing in court for watch and brief as counsel for the late Eneri Ali.
Ms Lata told the court that the state was requesting for 21 days to file information and disclosures for the substantive matter and a separate 14 days for the respective bail matters of the accused persons as the state was yet to receive the main file.
The court heard that Rusiate Kevin James Lal, Ronald Simon Lal’s bail matters would be called today while the bail matters for Ron Tuivuna William Lal, Sundar Lal and Baleiwai Waqabaca Lal would be heard on October 20.
Justice Sharma adjourned the case to October 29 for the substantive matter to be heard. salote.qalubau@fijisun.com.fj
