Good Parenting Motivates Natabua Lass to Excel
The constant push by Inayah Ali’s parents is the reason she has managed to achieve some of her goals in life.
The Year 12 student of Natabua High School’s recent achievement is being one of the bronze medalists in the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2021.
Her mother, Mehshreen, is currently a teacher at Natabua High School while her father, Imron, is a teacher at Lautoka Muslim College.
Being teachers to their children played a huge part in their lives where it allowed them to attain their planned objectives.
Inayah took the opportunity and was encouraged by them to take part in the competition which she was first uncertain about.
“My parents have always been with me whenever I wanted to take part in anything, they have coached me through all the competitions so when this competition came up I was a bit hesitant because it was an international competition and it was my first,” she said.
“However, my parents were with me every step of the way and encouraged me that I could do it and that I had the potential to do anything.”
The 17-year-old related her poem, titled ‘Vanua’ to the reality Fiji was facing with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“My poem is about a girl who lives in a city and is a chef. As she struggels with challenges and financial hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic, she had to leave her life in the city for a life in the village,” she said.
“When she reaches her village, she finds that life there is more peaceful and calm then life in the city.
“Later, she becomes connected to her friends, family members and the village lifestyle.”
Inayah acknowledged the support from her family and the staff at Natabua High School.
She has dreams to be in the medical field when she begins tertiary.
