Takalana Bay Tops for Simpson
Samanunu Simpson holds nature and its resources very close to her heart. The managing director of Kula Palms (Fiji) Pte Limited chose to tap into natural skincare because she wants to be able to provide Fiji and the world with products that are natural and effective.
The family-owned business located at Kuladrusi Estate, Savusavu, believes in the potency of natural remedies and have experienced first-hand how it healed so many people.
Owned by fifth generation copra planters, the company was established in 2016.
They manufacture and retail natural skincare products (mainly handmade soaps and oils) from coconut oil and traditional Fijian skin healing herbs.
Ms Simpson holds a Master’s Degree in Marine Science from the University of the South Pacific.
What is one place in Fiji you would take your visitors to, and why?
Nataleira, Dawasamu Tailevu - my home away from home.
I spent a fair number of years conducting my Master’s field research up here.
I worked on the acoustics of Spinner Dolphins, so most days were spent out at sea chilling with dolphins, sitting in a boat recording acoustic data.
The dives and snorkelling over at Moon Reef are amazing, I’d love to take all my family and friends here.
What is your favourite spot for a coffee/pie, and why?
Anywhere with family. Family time is paramount. It’s my safe and happy place. Nothing like having a good talanoa with cousins over a nice hot cup of tea and freshly baked bread from the nearby bakery. There is no time like family time.
What is your favourite backyard spot, and why?
Takalana Bay in the Dawasamu district, Tailevu.
So many fond memories were created here.
It is the perfect place to escape to when you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Suva city.
So serene and relaxing.
The people, food and adventures are great.
What is one place in Fiji on your bucket list, and why?
I’d love to visit the Lau group.
The islands and waters are so pristine - untouched and beautiful.
