Fiji Society for the Blind vaccination target of 100% for Fiji Day achieved
The Fiji Society for the Blind has achieved its 100 per cent vaccination rate as part of its Fiji Day goals. Executive director Barbara Farouk said while the school remained closed, all COVID protocols were followed for the safety of students and staff.
Mrs Farouk added that while the students stayed at home, support safely continued
“The admin staff continued to provide them with their work sheets, grocery packs and any other assistance they needed,” she said.
While there are no plans for Fiji Day celebrations because of the pandemic, Mrs Farouk remains proud of Fiji and its achievement
“Every year we celebrate Fiji Day to mark the anniversary of both Fiji cession to United Kingdom in 1874 and its attainment of Independence in 1970.
“Fiji remains a country full of promise and hope simply demonstrated by the goodwill that has endured and the love we have for this land that is our home. Wish all the Fijians a Happy Fiji Day,” said Mrs Farouk
Adhering to the safety protocols were key to the school’s goal to resuming operations for its students.
Mrs Farouk said few of the staff worked in bubbles and maintained communication with each other.
“Others who were able to report to duties followed all the necessary protocols. We stayed in our bubble and used the Society vehicle for transporting them to and from the work place. They were also told not to come if their areas were in lockdown,” she said.
Last year, Fiji Day celebrations for the school was full on as Fiji marked its 50 years anniversary.
“We celebrated Fiji Day in the school by organising a march within the compound and had a small program of 1 hour regarding Fiji Day displayed by the students. We arranged to do a video coverage, singing of the National anthem and display of Fiji Flags,” Mrs Farouk said.
Mrs Farouk wishes all Fijian families a Happy Fiji Day.
