A Nuclear Power Plant Engineer’s Solar Company in Fiji

- QUESTIONS & ANSWERS WITH DAWN RENEWABLE ENERGY (FIJI) PTE LIMITED CHAIRMAN, PAUL HUANG

Q: Why did you choose Fiji for your new career?

Paul: This is a good question. I was applying to go to Australia and Canada, and with a big offer for one energy group from Dubai, when I resigned from Nuclear Power Plant. I was in a hard time of making choice, just then my pastor told me “why don’t you think about Fiji”. So I flied to Fiji twice, did almost 1 year of preparation and survey, then I made my mind.

For I was attracted by the natural landscape and peaceful Bula Cuture, as well as the big potential development of renewable energy, which is my major. In addition, I checked the solar potential from NNSA, Fiji is one of the best places, while I was informed that there are still many areas lack of power, so I think maybe we can do something good to it. So we are here now.

Q:

Paul: I think and we plan to build it to be a professional solar company, with system design, supply, installation, and commissioning and maintenance one-stop service. And based on Fiji, then to the whole south pacific areas, for we have already got the

authorised approvals and supports from many professional solar factory companies to develop the solar market of these areas.

Q: What’s your company’s mission in solar?

Paul: We will try our best to provide high quality, modern designed and affordable solar to public people. That’s our mission in solar. Besides, we’d like to share our solar knowledge to all the people who want to learn, hope them can know how to install the solar systems by themselves to save their cost, especially for some rural areas and outer islands.

Of course, everyone is welcome to inquire us about their solar systems for free, we’d like to help people to analysis their systems whether there’re some potential problems. As long as we are free, you can call me or my team in any time. While humbly ask for forgiveness of late reply, if I’m busy. I’m not a rich businessman but an engineer, and we’re not big company, we just wanna do something real good. Humbly request to help us to point out and improve us, if we make some mistakes or wrongs, for we are always learners.

What products does your company

specialise in?

Paul: Most kinds of solar products and systems we all can do. We have solar DC air conditioner, solar DC freezer, solar home generator and solar lights; solar drying machine system, solar ice making machine system and solar pump system. Of course, we can do solar power system for factories and whole village, as well as solar power plant.

Q5: Does your company wholesale or supply to other countries?

Paul: Yes, we do. And our products already supplied some to Kiribati, Nauru, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Solomon and PNG. We are looking for some good companies or parties to wholesale to and support them. If not, we will try to open our sub-companies around South Pacific Area.

Q6: What’s your proposal of solar for residential of basic power demand?

Paul: After many surveys, I think our Integrated Solar Home Generator System is best suitable for families basic power demand, especially for rural areas and outer islands.

It can power the deep freezer, fridge, wash machine, TV, fan, light, charger, laptop, rice cook, small sound system and small photo copy machine.

All electrical components in one generator, as well as the solar batteries for a better safety, while no fuel

no noise. We installed some systems at Vanualevu before Cyclone Yasa, working well till now, even during the cyclone.

Q7: What’s your plan of maintenance and service, especially for Outer Islands?

Paul: We already planned to have company branches at Labasa in Vanualevu and Vunisea in Kadavu, hoping to provide more timely and quality solar service to customers. When the board opens, we will make it happen soon.

And we will have our own Inspection & Maintenance Team to travel around, to check our solar systems and provide services timely, as well as collecting feedback from customers for our upgrades.
