Mum will splash cash on daughter’s wedding
THIS win came at the right time because we had lost hope in getting finance to fund my daughter’s wedding which we had to differ from August to November.
An emotional Riayana Khatoon, a mother of three, said prior to winning $5,100 in the Fijian Government’s Win Together Sweepstakes, she had been worried how the family would be able to finance the wedding as they were finding it difficult to get a loan.
Mrs Khatoon hails from Ciriwai, Sigatoka where the family earns its ‘bread and butter’ on sugarcane farming.
We have been running around to get a loan for my daughter’s but it was tough because we are sugarcane farmers and on top of everything, the pandemic has made it even tougher now.

Mrs Khatoon said the pandemic has brought tough times for many people, even her daughter who had graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education but had not been able to find employment for the past two years.
“It’s like a blessing from Allah that I won this lottery, we will be able to have the wedding next month without worrying about the money.”
Mrs Khatoon said her whole family is fully vaccinated as by the end of June all the members had received both doses.
Her advice to people sitting on the fence on getting vaccinated for the betterment of the nation was basically, “if you don’t want to do it for the nation, do it for yourself and your family because for us, we were worried about the children in the house”.
