Lottery winner tells of excitement, blessing
IT was a Fiji Day to remember for the father of two, Vinay Prasad when he received the text that he had won the $5,100 from the Win Together Sweepstakes vaccine lottery announced by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
While having a break after a long day of driving his taxi, Mr Prasad received the news that he had won the lottery from a few family members and friends which he thought was a prank.

call and text message (from Ministry of Civil Service) then I couldn’t hold in my excitement,” he said.
“I felt so lucky and blessed that I had won and I thank my parents for their blessings as they encouraged me to take part in the lottery.”
Mr Prasad also thanked God for the blessing and said he and his wife have planned to use the money to renovate their 20-year-old family house.
“I am a strong believer in God and receiving this news made me thank God for this beautiful gift.”
Mr Prasad used to work as a chef and had lost his job when the COVID-19 pandemic hit Fiji and that was when he became a taxi driver.
He had won the permit for a taxi during Government’s taxi permit lottery in 2018 which was what he made the most of after losing his job.
Mr Prasad urges all Fijians to get vaccinated like he has done because it will help to not only protect their families but the nation as a whole.
“These are hard times and families are struggling, we need to take our chances with whatever life throws at us. If we help people, God will help us.”
Mr Prasad also thanked the Fijian Government for the Win Together Sweepstakes vaccine lottery initiative and also thanked his family and friends who have been supporting him.
