First timer pink-a-thon champion Regina Raihman will be doing walks around CAAF compound and a few laps in the swimming pool to raise funds for Pinktober.

The office manager at Flying Physio Rehab choose to be part of this virtual pink-a-thon event, to help promote awareness on breast cancer.

She said along the way, it became clear how important it is to stay healthy to reduce the possible risks of cancer.

“What motivated me to participate is that about a years ago I had a scare thinking I may have had breast cancer and it took me a while to go and get a checkup because I was scared to face the reality of it all, and the thought of all the “what if ”.

“While going through all of that scare all I could think of is I could really need someone’s help and support or even someone to talk to and help me through it all, I finally worked up the courage and did go and I was in the all clear.

So that begin said, I have chosen to help support the pinktober initiative is I would like to be there for someone, anyone who could facing the same problem because I cannot imagine what they must be going through and I feel that the more people address this head on and help support pinktober, the more awareness will be put out there,” shared Ms Raihman.

For Ms Raihman, pinktober month meant educating oneself about breast cancer andthe importance of regular checkups for any early signs.

She added that the month of October, is also to let other women know that they are not alone in their fight with cancer.

“I may not know of anyone personally who is battling with breast cancer, but would like to get to know anyone who is battling with this and if there is anything I could do to help them through this tough time, I would be happy to help,” Ms Raihman

added.

Ms Raihman is part of 20 other pink-a-thon champions who signed up for the challenge to do a 10KM physical exercise to raise awareness on cancer.

The target for each champion is 10km for those walking/running/ paddling/swimming while there is no target for funds raised.

This is one of the main awareness initiatives organised by the Fiji Cancer Society.

“Anyone can sign up for the Fiji Cancer Society Virtual Pink-a-thon by emailing/ Facebook message or a phone call. You will need to fill in a registration form and list down the type of activity you would like to do over a time frame which people would be able to sponsor. You would need to post pictures, videos or screenshot of an exercising tracker app on Facebook with tags each day,” said Ms Raihman.

The Pink-a-thon event will close at the end of this month.
