Public Rental Board (PRB) is looking at redeveloping the four-storey building to construct 168 flats along Grantham Road in Raiwaqa.

General Manager Patrick Veu said the redevelopment is to meet the demand for rental by the public and also the site location.

Mr Veu said the Public Rental Board is looking at working with public private partners for this project.

Accomodation

He said the proposed apartments would accommodate approximately 168 families; however, this may change once tenders are finalised.

Last week, an expression of interest was advertised in the Fiji Sun newspaper, calling for reputable contractors, consultants and established architectural firms to carry out a design and build model for the project.

“The site is a prime one and PRB is looking at innovative building designs and construction, it is also looking at a mixed development something different from its other rental estates,” said Mr Veu.

The planned redevelopment of 168 flats will each have one or two bedrooms.

“For one bedroom, it can accommodate four member families while and the two bedrooms may accommodate six member families.”

Mr Veu said the flats would cost approximately $100 for the one bedroom and $150 for a two bedroom.

“This amount is subject to change when a proper valuation is done,” he said.

“The Current Raiwai Project is $16,501 to $25,000. It will depend on the finished product PRB may want to raise the threshold to give a wider range for interested Fijians.

He said rental payment will be weekly.

Requirements

For those who may be interested in occupying a space at the flat, Mr Veu said an Expression of interests will be advertised.

“Once applications are received this will be reviewed based on the allocation criteria and flats allocated to successful and eligible tenants.”

At the moment, tenders have been advertised for the design and build concept.
