- SHAHANI MALA SUVA Feedback: shahani.mala@fijisun.com.fj

Ratu Celesiga Radoko Drauna, is one of the few sign language interpreters in Fiji. He is one of the familiar interpreters on Fiji One or FBC when there are special announcements made on air or during the evening news bulletin.

He interprets the news using the sign language and during the live streaming of Parliament Sittings.

He was born and raised in Lautoka.

“As an interpreter, I’m often required to travel around and stay at many hotels and resorts around the country attending conferences and training workshops.

“This year alone in January I had the privilege of travelling to the Lau Group as part of the UN and Government joint mission trip, we managed to visit six islands and 14 villages in nine days,” he said.

Ratu Celesiga shared his travelling experience during the Easter weekend Friday, April 2 to Monday, April 5.

“Over the Easter weekend, my friends and I decided to travel from Suva to Tailevu, hopped on a boat across to Nabowalu, then a bus ride to Savusavu town where we stopped over to take in all the breathtaking sights and lovely food.

“From Savusavu Town we got on another bus and headed up towards Napuka, it was quite a long trip but worth it,” he said.

Ratu Celesiga and his friends got off the bus and onto another small boat that took them across from Vanua Levu to Taveuni. “Taveuni is where all the adventures began and the real fun started,” he said.
