Ratu Sukuna Bowl

Ronnie Chang , Martintar, Nadi

Notably, with utmost respect, the Fiji Police rugby team failed to convert six ‘kickable’ penalty points to score an impressive backto-back successful defence against a doggedly determined Army side on the turf of the FMF Ratu Sukuna Bowl at the ANZ Stadium in Laucala Bay.

Kicking has let many teams down just when it matters most.

Many teams do not pay too much attention to this very specialised duty, in my humble two cents’ kai Nadi (Nadi native) opinion.

Another critical lesson delivered yesterday. Every goal kicker, in my view, should take 100 kicks at goal during every practice/training session.

Congrats to Army’s Jone Manu. He spoiled Police’s celebration in the dying nail-biting seconds of an exciting clash.

Congratulations, Army and commisserations, Police.

Merry Christmas and Happy New year to you all. Win or lose - celebrate 2021 Fiji rugby successes and failures.

Locals Important Kirti Patel, Lautoka

The coronavirus pandemic has taught us many things.

It also allowed certain people to return to work when they saw the green light - like our tourism industry.

Now that the borders have opened, the locals are again being shoved aside.

Shall we feel okay in the so called name of economy boom or upset that some people will lift the spirit of our locals?

Such is this world. But then again, there is also a lesson to learn from it.

Fiji Soccer Savusavu

Shah Shareef,

To the president of the Fiji Football Association - this is my 5 cents advice to you.

Instead of making the eight soccer clubs play some 28 games, excluding your bazaar tournaments of five (90 mins of games in five days), why don’t you promote another four teams to the super premier?

The Nasinu, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Tavua and Savusavu teams were in super premier once.

Get Levuka, Nalawa and Vatukoula districts back into premier.

These districts produced a few players like Amir Ahmed, Alfred Arapio the Salesi brothers, Andrews, Koko and Dickson from Savusavu to name a few, who went straight to main national teams.

During our playing days there used to be a premier division national soccer team made up of premier players only.

We used to play regional teams like Samoa and Tonga.

And can you also state:

The amount of grant to each super and premier district per season.

The wages one gets to manage a district team, be it manager, secretary, coach or president.

Can u also reduce the term to minimum 2yrs.

And finally can you advise how FFAs net asset value jumped from $2.50m to $25m under your leadership. Are you also counting the Academies around that was solely funded by FIFA.

I call upon FIFA to conduct an enquiry and to get the real cost of Labasa academy.
