Business owners and employees were urged to be receptive to new ideas in the interest of improving operations.

Attorney-General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum made the remarks during the fifth anniversary of Promex Consulting PTE Limited.

The anniversary was held at Indigo restaurant, Port Denarau, on Saturday night.

The engineering consultancy firm is 100 per cent Fijian owned and was founded in 2016.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said organisations were as strong as the people they employed.

“The companies might have assets or machinery, but if you don’t have the right people or train people in the right place and right time, the company won’t be effective,” he said.

Liberalise the economy

He said the Government’s approach was to liberalise the economy, where Fijian companies and expatriate companies could participate on a level playing field.

“We require stability, in terms of the policies that are being implemented,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

“I’m sure there’s a lot of learning, and obviously growing the business,” he said.

“Any good employer will always invest in its staff, make sure that they’re rewarded well, and make sure their particular training programmes are available for them.

“They’ll make sure that their relationship is developed, and is not an antagonistic relationship, but an environment where both employers and employees are able to learn from each other, and are able to contribute to the nation’s economy.”
