Lee retains President’s Cup title

Overnight leader Sam Lee shot a total of nine under par 135 to retain his title, the Gecko Trucking President‘s

Cup 2021 at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club on Saturday.

The victory also gave catapult Lee to also claim top honours in the Fiji Order of Merit points after he shot five under par 67 on Day One and four under in the last and final round in the 36-hole competitio­n.

“Returning from competitio­n in the US was tough for me, and I had struggled in the last couple of tournament­s,” Lee said.

“I had played my A-game in this final competitio­n as the Fiji Order of Merit was decided here. I had a good shot on Day One and just had to maintain it to the final round.”

Lee thanked the Fiji PGA and the sponsors for the great tournament, no doubt the excitement came from the fellow golfers.

Suva’s Tomasi Tuivuna shot three under par 141 (72, 69) to finish second and Lautoka school teacher Roneel Prakash in third for one over par 145 (71, 74). Amitesh Chandra finished in fourth, three over par 147 (75, 72) and Zoheer Ahmad, and Vikrant Chandra tied in 5 th spot for 148.

Geckos Trucking (Fiji) Limited managing director Wella Pillay said as a company they will continue to support the sport of golf in future.

said, “We are overwhelme­d to bring such a good number of golfers to compete in this event. There were 20 profession­al players.”

He thanked those that supported the event Vuksich & Borich, Coastal Rental Cars, Swire Shipping, Sigatoka Motor Spares, General Machinery Group and Tappoo.

“We thank Geckos Trucking for sponsoring this event the last three years and V&B for sponsoring $30,000 to Fiji PGA,” said Chandra.

Nadi businessma­n Abid Hussain retained his amateur title again after he carded even par 72 in the 18- holes. Impressive Bella Cho took out the Ladies title when she shot three under 69.
