PRESIDENT RATU WILIAME SWEARS IN MAGISTRATES
THE THREE NEW MAGISTRATES MS SALOTE NASEDRA, MS SENIKAVIKA LAGILAGI JIUTA AND MR YOGESH PRASAD ALL HAVE EXTENSIVE LEGAL BACKGROUND HAVING SERVED IN BOTH THE PRIVATE AND PUBLIC SECTOR.
The President, Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere yesterday officiated at the swearing in of three new magistrates at the State House.
The three new magistrates Ms Salote Nasedra, Ms Senikavika Lagilagi Jiuta and Mr Yogesh Prasad all have extensive legal background having served in both the private and public sector.
Salote Nasedra
Magistrate Nasedra began her career with the Ministry of Employment Productivity and Industrial Relation in 2011, where she was assigned to the Employment Relations Tribunal [ERT], assisting the Chief Tribunal and the Legal Tribunal with research work on employment related issues and later on appointed the Assistant Registrar, Employment Relations Tribunal.
In September 2012 she resigned from the Ministry of Employment Productivity and Industrial Relation and joined the Legal Aid Commission as a Legal Officer before being promoted to Senior Legal Officer in 2014, a post she held prior to her appointment as Magistrate in our judiciary.
She holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Drafting from the Institute of Justice and Applied Legal Studies University of the South Pacific.
Senikavika Lagilagi Jiuta
Magistrate Lagilagi joined the legal fraternity in 2011 beginning her career with the Legal Aid Commission as a Legal Officer. She served in various branches of the institution including Suva, Sigatoka, Nadi and Ba.
In November 2016, Magistrate Lagilagi joined the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission as Board Secretary and in September 2016 she was appointed Manager Legal, Risk Management and Governance.
In 2019 Magistrate Lagilagi became the General Manager Operations at the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission until her appointment as a Magistrate.
She holds a Bachelor of Law and a Professional Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of the South Pacific.
Yogesh Prasad
Magistrate Prasad on the other hand started his career in the engineering sector in 1994 and for a while was a journalist for the Australian Associated Press.
He involved himself with international trade and was the Director of Global Trading Enterprises Ltd from 2002 where he promoted products from overseas into Fiji Market.
In 2009 he joined the Office of the Director for Public Prosecution as State Counsel and later on he was appointed the Principal Legal Officer Eastern.
Apart from his various qualifications, Magistrate Prasad also holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Professional Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of the South Pacific.
He is currently pursuing a Masters of Law with Deakin University of Australia.
