Natawarau Youths urged to apply for China Scholarship

- SALOTE QALUBAU LAUTOKA Edited by Losirene Lacanivalu

Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Qian Bo has urged the youths of Natawarau Settlement in Ba to consider applying for the Chinese Government’s 20222023 scholarship programme.

Mr Qian made these comments while delivering his speech at the handover of a fibreglass boat from the Chinese Embassy to the youths on Thursday.

“I simply want to share one piece of information to you that the Chinese government has a scholarship programme every year for the students in Fiji,” Mr Qian said.

“For the upcoming year that is 2022 to 2023, there are altogether 284 designated Chinese universities offering a variety of academic programmes for scholarship recipients at all levels so I do welcome some promising youths.”

He said youths would also need to reach a certain level stipulated by the Chinese government pertaining to the scholarship

He said they would cover all the expenses for travel, accommodation and study because education is the key for a community to develop, for a family to develop and education will change the life of every family household in the village.

“I’m sure that among you we have very promising young people who are interested in continuing their studies at the university. If your family is unable to afford it as long as he or she is good enough we will be able to sponsor the study for him or her.”

Partners

He said since Fiji and China were comprehensive strategic partners, there was also a political will and commitment to work together to achieve common development.

“This is not the end of our cooperation with the Ministry of Sports, this is only a new beginning of our cooperation between the two sides and this embassy will try to explore more opportunities to help this community to help raise the living standard of the people,” he said.

“Youths are the future and hope of a country. The Chinese Embassy is very pleased to provide this fibreglass boat to the Natawarau community and I hope this boat could help improve the livelihood of young people in this village.” Minister for Youth, Sports

Minister for Youth and Sports Parveen Bala Kumar said the provision of the fibreglass boat would empower youths with income generation opportunities

“For this reason, the Ministry is very thankful for the kind assistance from the Chinese government towards the batches of boats with engines and the safety gears to ensure the potential of these youths are realised,” he said.

He also stressed the importance of compliance to sea transport travel procedures due to numerous sea accidents.
