Acommon name in the Fiji Sun newspaper, Simon Hazelman has been writing letters for more than 30 years.

The 58 year – old finds enjoyment in expressing his life’s journey and the various cultures that he has come across through his letters to the editor.

This week, he is one of Fiji Sun’s top letter writers who won three pop-up toasters and two pressure cookers.

“When I was living on my family property in Savusavu, when I wake up every morning before the sun rises, I am thinking of what to write and start writing so by the time the sun sets, I have completed writing the letter and being sent.

“I just have a lot to say. I have experienced a lot in my life. I have worked for 13 properties, I was the only local that managed a resort in Savusavu, and won awards.

“I have been married seven times and have experienced seven different cultures so I have experienced a lot of things from all these cultures. I have experienced a lot of cultures and their way of life which I also share in my letters. Travelled to a lot of places around the world and in Fiji,” he said.

Mr Hazelman had worked in the tourism sector for many years and was a practical man in making sure that everything went smoothly for the resorts he worked for.

“I did not do well in school because I was more into practical things so when I finished school, I would join my father in learning how to drive, manage properties and mechanics. That was how I

experienced life and my letters tell the story about these things,” he said.

“By the time I was 19 years – old, I already had my heavy-duty driver’s licence, group six captain licence, scrubber diving and my success throughout the whole time was being practical and working hard. My dad worked in properties for 36 years so myself and my siblings have grown in the industry,” Mr Hazelman said.

He plans to continue writing letters to share his life experience to readers.
