From delivering mails on foot to the Head of Postal Services
One of the longest serving staff members of Post Fiji has shared how proud he is to have been able to sustain the business during the COVID-19 pandemic.
With no pay cuts and no reduced working hours, Head of Postal Services Iliesa Vanawalu said the company has changed its leadership skills to achieve goals.
Mr Vanawalu has been with the company for 34 years.
He witnessed the company grow from manual mail deliveries to van deliveries.
“When I started off, I joined in the department of postal and telecommunication services. At that time, we had to deliver mails in foot. Those were the testing grounds for us,” he said.
“It was not that easy for us. We were out on the streets for almost five hours regardless of the weather to deliver mails. From there onward, we built our service career moving up.
“Then we changed to motorbikes and years later, we started using vans for delivery. So, Post Fiji has gone through various stages of changes.”
He said Post Fiji had brought many changes right from manual to digital.
“We are still working on it and we also want to improve our services while we moving forward,” he added.
“We have come this far despite COVID-19 with the support of our chief executive officer, Anirudha Bansod and the executive members.
“We have the e-commerce platform which has really grown during this pandemic. If we did not adapt quickly to the changes, it would have been a different situation for us.”
About the 150 years of Post Fiji’s celebrations, Mr Vanawalu said it was one of the huge celebrations they had ever come across.
“We are celebrating our success and hoping for more milestone achievements in the future.
“This is a festive season and this celebration is a way to rejoice Christmas with our Post Fiji team.”
