Edwards’ contribution to Post Fiji is his best achievement of all time
After serving 43 years in Post Fiji and playing numerous important roles, Alexander Edwards feels esteemed to be a part of the company’s 150 years anniversary.
The 64-year-old retired in 2017. He joined Post Fiji in the Fiji Postal Telecommunication Limited in 1974.
Mr Edwards has also served in various post offices as a junior officer and a postmaster.
He has contributed towards countless projects for Post Fiji from which he attained higher posts.
“I served in several island stations like Rotuma, Lakeba, Taveuni, Savusavu and many more. I was very fortunate to be employed by Post Fiji because they had sent me for training overseas as well,” he said.
Mr Edwards said he was first sent to Thailand to do some studies about postal services.
While returning back, he was able to start up a small post shop, which was his first project.
“I have also started an EMS courier. I have been an all-rounder which was an achievement for me and a moment to climb the ladders,” he said.
“After that, I joined the MIS team in Suva. We were six of us and we were sent to New Zealand to study the computerisation system and post shop system. And that is what we implemented in Fiji.”
He said they were successful in computerising all of Fiji.
“Everything was done manually before we implemented technical advancement in Fiji,” he added.
“Few years after, we were again sent to NZ to study the SmartWare
system, which is basically getting raw data and processing it and sending it through printing machine which could print 200 page per minute,” M r Edwards said.
“From printers, it automatically goes to the packing machine.”
He said his bet moment at Post Fiji was when he started off with his projects.
“I feel really proud to be part of Post Fiji’s 150 years celebrations. I have contributed to the company and I am happy to be appreciated,” he said.
“This is the first time that the management has acknowledged the retirees. Normally when you retire, that is it. Thank you Post Fiji for the knowledge and skills you have given to me.”
