Agroup of youths are planning to make grocery donations this Christmas to 20 women who been struggling to make ends have meet.

The donations were part of the group’s Christmas plans of giving back to families in need.

Founder of Diversity Awareness said Christmas was not about buying expensive gifts but sharing the true spirit of Christmas by giving back to those in need.

“We will be out and about distributing these goodies and also praying for those who need it. The team will also light up candles and pray for our nations recovery from COVID, as we believe alot of financial stress is on the people due to lockdowns and job loss.”

Members of the youth group living abroad helped fundraised for the funds and managed to collect a reasonable amount for the worthy cause.

Mrs Chandra said some of the members had donated a portion of their earning to also help fund the initiative.

“We have members who are bankers, accountants, Nurses, medical students, teachers and community workers some are in Fiji while others are abroad. We believe in giving back. Due to COVID, alot of people got laid off and so the team decided to raise funds and distribute Christmas groceries and goodies to families that really need it.”

The 20 recipients were selected on the urgency for grocery items as some of the women were windows.

Diversity Awareness maintained communications with these women via zoom meeting to identify grocery items they needed the most.

“Our community liasion manager works closely with these women in the communities and therefore she has identified these 20 women who will be supported by this initiative. They stayed in touch through via zoom meeting, as everyone is spread out. We were made aware of their situation and then the team came to a decision through prioritising from the most needy to the least,” she said.

She said Christmas was that time of the year where families celebrate the birth of jesus, which taught people to give and expect nothing in return.

Through the donations, she hopes it would help restore the smiles on those that need it the most.
