Christmas is the most awaiting festival during the pandemic. Now that some of the COVID-19 restrictions have been eased, families and friends will finally be able to mingle around and make this Christmas a memorable one.

Erini Tokarua and her family is super excited to meet other families and organise fun activities with them during the long break.

Mrs Tokarua is a mother of three. She said her children was looking forward to spend their Christmas with their cousins.

“Christmas to us means remembering the main reason for the season and that is Jesus,” she said.

“We remember that his birth is the reason we are here today. Getting to celebrate with family and extended family is a bonus especially now with all this COVID-19 restrictions.”

The 38-year-old also remembered those families who would not be able to celebrate Christmas this year.

“For those that have the means and money to celebrate Christmas, our advice would be, find ways to help those around you that are not fortunate enough to celebrate,” Mrs Tokarua said.

“It doesn’t have to be much. Helping at least a family member, a neighbor or a friend would be enough.

“For those that are not fortunate enough to celebrate, the secret is to be grateful. Grateful for the little that we have. It could be much worse than this.”

The New Year’s resolution for her family would be to forgive more, love more and be kind.

She said there’s no time for grudges and hate.

“We have 1 chance and one life to make things right.”

Mrs Tokarua also said one of the positive outcomes of being on lockdown though was that they started subsistence farming.

She said they will have more of the outdoor games for the children to enjoy for the long Christmas holiday.

“My husband made a zip line and swings for the little ones in our front yard,” she said.

“Christmas Eve is bonfire and camp night for the children while the adults enjoy a karaoke session.”
