Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho is urging Fijians to drink responsibly during this long weekend.
He said excessive consumption of alcohol will always lead to trouble if one is not careful.
Weekend offenses
From Saturday at 6am to Sunday 6am, 96 drivers were booked for speeding and Western Division topped the list of traffic related offences.
“We will continue to issue advisories on the importance of moderation because we have seen how the excessive consumption of alcohol leads to other problems. Not only on the criminal front but, socially as well,” Brigadier-General Qiliho said.
“When one drinks excessively, they become a problem not only to those they’re with but to others and this is what we want to avoid. The Festive season is about making good memories with your loved ones, don’t let it become regrettable memories.
“We are not against or stopping anyone from enjoying themselves and drinking, but we are urging people to know when to stop and say I’ve had enough.
“And if you’re with someone who is finding it difficult to refuse a drink, please step in and assist them in making the right decision.
If you need assistance and know that the situation is highly likely to get out of control, call your nearest Police Station or the National Command Centres.
“We are often directing our awareness and advisories calling on people to drink responsibly, and this Festive season we are also calling on family and loved one’s to step in and help.
