Dakuwaqa Helps Montpellie­r Win

Rio Olympic gold medallist Masivesi Dakuwaqa helped his Montpellie­r side seal victory, 27-12 against Johnny Dyer’s Biarritz team to maintain their Top 14 charge at the Parc des Sports d’Aguilera Stadium, Biarrtz yesterday.

The home side scored four first-half penalties through Brett Herron, but went in 12-13 down at the break after a try from Handre Pollard.

Vincent Rattez and Dakuwaqa then sealed victory in the final 15 minutes despite Bastien Chalureau being sent off on the hour, earning the bonus point that saw Philippe Saint-André’s men join Toulouse on second level in the table.

Biarritz Fijian locks Dyer, was handed a yellow card at the end of half-time.

Bordeaux still lead the Top 14 on 42 points with Toulouse and Montpellie­r two points behind, although Montpellie­r have played one match more.

“We got two lovely tries when we were a man down, but none of that was easy,” Saint-André told Super Sports.

“I’m proud we picked up the bonus, it doesn’t often happen at Biarritz.”

Biarritz boss Shaun Sowerby said he was deeply disappoint­ed.

In other games La Rochelle thumped Lyon 25-3 with their sixth straight home win.

La Rochelle back row Gregory Alldritt touched down two tries in a man of the match performanc­e.

Castres edged Perpignan 20-19 while the Toulouse versus Stade Francais, Toulon versus Bordeaux-Begles, Brive versus Clermont and Racing 92 versus Pau were postponed due to COVID-19.
