Bout winners to fight in Australia: Chand

- WAISEA NASOKIA NADI Edited by Karalaini Waqanidrola

The bout winners from the South Pacific Boxing Promotions in Nadi will automatically earn a ticket each to fight in the Australian programme.

Nadi’s Prince Charles Park, will host the first professional event for 2022 on January 29 and it will feature 18 boxers in various weight categories including two Fijian titles.

SPBP promoter Fredy Chand revealed to SUNSports yesterday that the onus is now on the boxers to perform at a high level.

“This is an opportune time for the local boxers to prove themselves and also fight in an overseas program, and this is something new for our promotions,” he said.

“We are half way in negotiation with an Australian promoter to take the winners, basically that is the main objective to make sure that pro boxers do have more opportunity to expose their respective talents which we value much.”

Fijian light heavyweight champion boxer Savenaca Naliva will face Naitasiri’s Tomu Gaunavou in the main bout.

In the other Fijian title fight, Shamal Ram Anuj will face veteran Ritesh Gounder for the vacant Fijian super bantamweight title fight.
