Peaceful, Safe Christmas at Qauia, Praise for Police

- WATI TALEBULA-NUKU

Residents of Qauia Settlement in Lami have praised the Fiji Police Force for ensuring that they had a peaceful and safe Christmas Eve and Christmas Day this year.

For years, it was the norm for residents to see youths sitting under a tree drinking and creating a nuisance for others, but this year it was different.

Senikau Biudole, 58, said she had the best Christmas with her family and loved ones and thanked all Police Personnel for patrolling around their neighbourhood so everyone was safe.

“Qauia is known as a notorious area and when youths are drunk it’s worse,” Ms Biudole said.

“This way we can minimise brawls in the area, especially those from wild drinking parties.

“Qauia is known as a red zone area. People drink a lot and disturb others by swearing and drinking in groups but this year it was different.

Another resident, Maria Salacakau, 73, shared the same sentiments and praised the Police Force.

Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho thanked members of the Qauia community for their cooperation.

“We commend and acknowledge the support from members of the Qauia community. It proves that when we work together for a common good, we can achieve great things which in this case was a peaceful and incident free Christmas in a community known to have recorded serious reports during the festive season,” Brigadier-General Qiliho said.

He hoped this level of cooperation would continue well into the New Year.

“It goes back to what Police have been advocating. We need to fight the common enemy and work together where in the long run everyone in the community benefits,” he added.
