Chand Helps Dad Generate $15K During Christmas Period

- SAMPRAS ANAND Edited by Jonathan Bryce Feedback: sampras.anand@fijisun.

While many spent their Christmas long weekend taking it easy, one 20-year-old spent it helping his father earn $15,000.

Ronitesh Chand, from Vunicuicui, outside Labasa, generated his father’s cash flow when he had a livestock sale.

He was proud that his dad taught him all about the practices of farming livestock.

Mr Chand, who is an automotive engineering student at the Fiji National University in Labasa campus, believes his early morning and livestock rearing efforts have greatly paid off.

He said the busy months leading to Christmas day massively contributed to their ability to generate a good income.

“After my mother’s death, I always supported my father on the farm to raise the cattle, pigs and goats because my younger brother is a Year 10 student and needs to focus on his education, which is really important,” he said.

The soft-spoken, Mr Chand, said their livestock sales during the year, massively contributed to their family sustainability.

He said the money earned would be used to better cater for their expenses during the COVID-19 crisis.

“During this COVID-19 pandemic, we managed to make close to $40,000 income from the sales, which was a reasonably good amount in these hard times,” he said

The father-son pair sold their livestock to customers who had booked and arranged for pick up in different areas in Labasa and even from Viti Levu.

“We are getting our next set of livestock ready to be sold off in the next few months to potentially interested buyers,” Mr Chand said.

He advised that with COVID-19 cases on the rise in the Northern Division, people needed to safeguard their health by following simple, but life-saving COVID-safe protocols. com.fj
