Wife ‘Lonely’, ‘Heartbroken’ After Losing Husband in Untimely Death
The late Wiliame Tavanavanua Nava was found dead near his sugarcane farm.
Ifeel lonely now and heartbroken that my supporting hand has left the family so early.
Those were the words of Makelesi Dikuvasere, who is mourning the untimely death of her husband and father to four children, Wiliame Tavanavanua Nava.
The body of the late Mr Nava, originally from Namoli, Lautoka, was found by a relative on Saturday morning near his sugarcane farm, just metres from the family house.
Ms Dikuvasere, 37, said she last saw her husband on Friday night at Vatudova Village, when he came to her to pick up the keys to their house.
“When my husband came to get the keys at around 10:30pm, I asked him whether he was stable enough to walk home alone, which he confidently said yes,” she said emotionally.
“We both financially support our children because my husband was a sugarcane farmer and I work as a cleaner at Rokomate House in Labasa.”
The family lives at a settlement near Vatudova Village, Tabia, where a funeral remembrance function was held on Friday. The same event Ms Dikuvasere and her late husband attended, prior to his death.
The relative who spotted the body first had informed Mr Nava’s brother-in-law, Epeli Daukea and sister Liza Malo, who then went over to see for themselves.
When Mr Daukea turned the body to its side, he realised that Mr Nava had died, claiming that the body was stiff and cold. Police officers helped transport the body to the hospital. An autopsy examination will be conducted soon to determine the cause of death.
The late Mr Nava, 47, was described as the ‘best tavale (brotherin-law)’ with a humble, respectful, friendly and loving character.
