The Lautoka Magistrates Court refused bail for Shalendra Sen Sina. On June 10 he was placed on remand for one count of theft and one count of breaching bail conditions.

Sen Sina, allegedly stole a motor vehicle worth $38,000 from Yaweni Street, Lautoka on June 4 and also breached his bail conditions by reoffending while on bail.

The matter was heard before Magistrate Sekonaia Vodokisolomone and Sina was represented by Rajshneel Chand of JK Singh Lawyers while the prosecution was represented by Inspector Arvind Kumar.

Mr Chand told the court that the vehicle had been recovered and he had gone through the disclosures which did not contain a link between Sina and the alleged stolen vehicle.

The court heard Sina would also be appearing in the Sigatoka Magistrates Court, where he is charged with one count of theft for allegedly dishonestly obtaining an outboard engine worth $9100 on September 9, 2016.

Mr Kumar told the court that the prosecution was objecting to bail and requested for Sina’s case from Sigatoka to be transferred to the Sigatoka Magistrates Court.

Mr Chand sought bail on the grounds that the offence allegedly took place in 2016 and the

Police took time investigating the matter.

Inspector Kumar said he understood the Sigatoka case was being brought before the court late, however Sina had 38 previous convictions recorded which included six arson charges as well as forgery cases.

The court heard Sina had pending matters at the Nadi, Lautoka and Sigatoka Magistrates Courts respectively.

Magistrate Vodokisolomone adjourned the substantive Lautoka matter to June 21 while the Sigatoka case was adjourned to June 24 to be called at the Sigatoka Magistrates Court.
