‘Kanalevu Kitchen For My Brother From Another Mother’
You can’t have happiness if you are not successful, says 39-year old Whanganui chef, Josua Rasolo.
“And you cannot be successful without good leadership,” he adds.
“The three come as a package.”
Josh, as he is better known, was raised on the principle that ther was no substitute for hard work.
“We must always heed the advice of our parents,” the former Natabua High School student said.
“Dreams are free.
“But the future is built on dreams, if you work hard for it.”
Domestic tourism
Josh has not been back to Fiji for the past seven years.
But when he does, the Vanuabalavu native who is chasing his dreams in North Island, New Zealand, will attend to a long list of things to do.
“I have been away for so long, I don’t even know how the domestic industry is doing,” he said yesterday.
“I do know it took a big hit during COVID-19, like everything else in Fiji. “But Fiji has always been unique when it comes to tourism, and many may say it’s the place or it’s the food. “To me, it’s the people that make Fiji tourism so unique.”
The people
Domestic travel must be made affordable for people to travel, he said.
The global state of fuel prices may put a spanner in the works for a while where that is concerned, he said.
“The fuel prices nowadays make it all the better to push bikes, with lots of weetbix for fuel,” Mr Rasolo said.
A surprise
Head chef at Jane Winstone Retirement Village, under Ryman Health Care, in the lower North Island, New Zealand, is eager to see his children.
“I really miss my family - especially my three children in Nadi,” Mr Rasolo said.
“As soon as I can get some time off, I will be back home.
“First thing I’ll do is see my children, then my mum, and my sister.
“Then I want to take them to my good friends Frank and Vui Saketa’s restaurant in Suva.”
“But it’s all going to be a surprise.”
A professional chef for the past 13 years, he worked in several parts of the South Pacific, including Fiji, Niue, the Cook Islands, and on board a diving boat.

What is your favourite backyard spot?
The beach.
Nothing can compare to that.
What is one place in Fiji on your bucket list? The caves in Sawa i Lau, Yasawa.
