2368 TSLS Students on Probation

About 368 students were on their last probation period

- SAMPRAS ANAND LABASA Edited by Percy Kean

Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Services (TSLS), chief executive officer, Hasmukh Lal, has reminded 2368 sponsored students on probation to improve their academic grades this semester.

This is if students wish to avoid losing out on their scholarship in Semester Two, this year.

Mr Lal reiterated these comments during their learning support services open forum at the Sangam Institute of Technology (SIT) campus in Labasa recently.

The basic scholarship assessment requirement for National Toppers Scholarship (NTS) is to attain a GPA of more than 3.0 each semester while students sponsored by the Tertiary Education Loans Scheme (TELS) had to get a GPA above 2.0.

TSLS has expanded learning support services and personnel were visiting every university and campus to understand the challenges, students faced.

They are talking and focusing more on underperforming students in order for them to attain good pass rates and avoid losing their scholarship.

The probation students included both the Tertiary Education Loans Scholarship (TELS) and National Toppers Scholarship (NTS) recipients.

About 368 students were on their last probation period and their grades this semester would determine their scholarship status in Semester Two.

Mr Lal said they had relaxed its grade monitoring process during the adversity of the first and second waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in the closure of all universities from face-to-face interactions.

During this term, TSLS did not suspend any scholarship for probation students because of the challenging academic environment for students.
