Tuicuvu Bets on Nadi
Vodafone Flying Fijians fullback Setareki Tuicuvu is putting his money on Jack’s Nadi to retain the INKK Fiji Rugby Farebrother Trophy at Prince Charles Park, Nadi, this afternoon.
Tuicuvu, who plays for Brive in the French Top 14 competition, told SUNsports that Nadi had showed their worth by beating Naitasiri and Suva.
Hailing from Moala Village in Nadi, the 26-year-old said he would always back his home team.
Tuicuvu played for Nadi in the 2014 and 2015 season and they twice lost to Nadroga in their Farebrother Trophy clash at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.
“I know how important this match is for Nadi,” he said.
“I still remember vividly that I played twice in the challenge, and we lost on both occasions to Nadroga.
“Back then Nadroga had star players like Setefano Somoca, and Nemani Nagusa to name a few. Now, Nadroga seemed to be in a rebuilding phase so I don’t see any reason why Nadi should not retain the trophy. They have the best bunch of players who have come up through the ranks.”
Tuicuvu attended Ralete Distrcit School in Moala, before moving to Swami Vivekananda College (SVC), but because of rugby he joined Ratu Navula College.
He played for the Nadi Under-20 side for only a season as he caught the attention of the coaching panel who promoted him to the senior team.
Tuicuvu took it with both hands and in the middle of the 2015 season he signed a contract to join Clermont.
He later moved to Brive in 2020. He made his debut for the Flying Fijians in 2018 against Scotland and is now part of the Flying Fijians squad preparing for next month’s Pacific Nations Cup.
Meanwhile, a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been reached on Thursday between Jack’s Nadi Rugby president Mataiasi Nabau and No.1 Currency Fiji head of retail La Tuisese.
That is for one year Nadi Rugby will support the company’s business through their supporters by sending money only through Western Union, which is a partner of No.1 Currency Fiji.
Nabau said with the theme ‘Together everyone achieves more’ has seen the tremendous support from businesses that have elevated the Nadi Rugby brand to another level.
This has boosted the morale of the players. The match kicks off at 3pm.
