Health Insurance helps cover the high costs of medical and even surgical expenses for people. It has been helpful and a relief to Kritesh Chand and his family.

The 30-year-old who works as a Procurement Coordinator at Fiji National University, has been medically insured for the past seven years.

Mr Chand believes health insurance is a way of paying for medical bills and health care costs.

“Having health insurance makes it easier for you to access – that is, find and pay for routine and preventive health care,” he said.

“The health insurance has enabled me and also my family to get regular checkups, blood tests, lab work, scans and screenings.

“This basically helps us in preventing the illness in the first place.”

He also said it was important to be medically insured during the COVID-19 era as the chance of becoming ill will increase among many of us.

“Health insurance policy allows people to

keep themselves safe from every illness as they can,” he added.

“As COVID-19 has caused deaths and severe symptoms, it is our duty to be prepared and get healthcare assistance because life is precious.”

Mr Chand was happy to be insured in a way where the policy covered for his spouse and his child.

“The benefits of this policy is that it has kept us in good health. In times of any sickness, we are able to get the right treatment at the right time,” he said.

He said opting for a health insurance was a way to save up money and had other numerous benefits.

“Since you are young and healthier, you can avail plans at lower rates and the advantage will continue even as you grow older.

“Additionally, you will be offered more extensive coverage options. Most policies have a pre-existing waiting period which excludes coverage of pre-existing illnesses.

“This period will end while you are still young and healthy, thus giving you the advantage of exhaustive coverage that will prove useful if you fall ill later in life.”
