Firefighters Rescue Abandoned Puppies
Firefighters not only put out fires, but also to assist communities in several other ways, says Shailendra Nand.
Mr Nand praised the Nakasi Fire
Station personnel for saving two puppies after they were stuck between planks of timber at his construction site in Nakasi.
Despite various efforts to remove the puppies, it didn’t look safe, so he called the fire station for assistance.
“At my construction site in Nakasi where I’m building a double-storey house, there are a lot of timber posts around,” he said.
The work site was closed for a month and upon inspecting the area on Tuesday, he heard the distressing cries of puppies.
Getting curious, Mr Nand knew the puppies were in danger, so he checked around for their location.
“I tried shifting the timber yet saw the puppies were in an unsafe position. If I had shifted the timber any further, it would have fallen on them. So I called the fire station for help.
“One call and they were here rescuing the puppies,” he said
It is important that people should know that they can also go to the fire authorities for this type of assistance.
Mr Nand said that it was disheartening yet quite common to see animals being abandoned not only in Nakasi but elsewhere due to issues such as not being able to afford their care.
“We care about animals, a few weeks back, someone had abandoned five puppies which the SPCA did not accept but luckily I found an NGO who took them in.”
Mr Nand urged people not to abandon puppies or leave them in danger and to instead give them up for adoption to someone who will take care of them ad enjoy the company of man’s best friend.
